Cromer Beach – The wonderful sandy beach is just a four minute walk away. Whether here for a family holiday or a romantic get away you will find plenty to do along the promenade with several quality beachside cafes and restaurants. For your added peace of mind and security the sandy beach is lifeguarded by the RNLI during the summer season (7th May – 11th September)
Cromer Pier – The only pier along the North Norfolk coast. Famous for its live shows in the 510 seater Pavilion Theatre, click here to find out more. Also offers excellent opportunities for a stroll in the bracing air, fishing for Bass and Mackerel, and great for crabbing for the kids! Entry to the Pier is free, as is the fishing.
The Reef Leisure Centre at Sheringham – Don’t let those occasional(!) rainy days spoil your holiday. An indoor swimming pool and leisure centre can be found just a few miles along the coast road between Sheringham and Weybourne.
Cromer Carnival – The biggest event in the town’s calendar and if you can get to Cromer for this week then you are in for a treat! Held in mid-August each year this is certainly not one to be missed.
Norfolk Broads – Why not try a day out in the Norfolk Broads. Surprisingly close to Cromer, only a 30 minute drive along the A149 will bring you to the magical world of Norfolk reeds, watermills, rivers, boats, and wildlife.
Golf Course – The stunning 18 hole Royal Cromer Golf Club is just a five minute drive along the Overstrand Road or alternatively the beautiful Sheringham Golf Club is less than 15 minutes by car, and is widely regarded as one of Norfolk’s best golf courses. See Golfing tab for more information.
Horse Riding – Available at several nearby sites including Squirrel Wood Equestrian Centre and North Norfolk Riding Centre.
Skateparks – If you’re a fan of wheeled sports, such as skateboarding or BMX, then Cromer is perfectly positioned in a great middle ground for a variety of well-built skateparks. It doesn’t get much more ideal than Cromer Skatepark, found at The Meadow Play Park just a 5-10 minute walk from the accomodation! Other notable skateparks include “The Strip” at Sheringham, North Walsham Skatepark, Mundesley Skatepark and Aylsham Skatepark to name a few – all within a 20 minute drive from The Old Coach House.
Cromer Crabs are a large part of the income of the town of Cromer. Historically the crab were only caught in the summer months, in autumn the fishermen brought Herring to the town, and winter cod was the main catch. This has now changed to solely bringing crab and lobster to the town. Cromer hosts its very own Annual Crab & Lobster Festival every May!
The Cromer Crabs in particular are known for their tender flesh, and high proportion of white meat to dark. The fleet has reduced to about a dozen boats, looking after about 200 crab pots, meaning that it is even more of a specialty! As you would expect, all the town’s restaurants and cafe’s have Cromer crab on their menu, so why not give it a try.
If you have children, why not try and catch them yourself for free off the Pier with a crab line readily available from many of the local shops!
Steam Trains – The Poppy Line is the nearest, offering a 10.5 mile round trip from Sheringham to Holt. The Bure Valley railway is Norfolk’s longest 15 inch gauge line offering an 18 mile round trip from Aylsham (10 miles from Cromer) to the capital of the Broads, Wroxham. Finally, the Wells & Walsingham line offers the longest 10.25 inch narrow gauge steam railway in the world, operating out of Wells-next-the-Sea (20 miles from Cromer)
Seal Trips. – A colony of over 500 Seals, both Grey and Common, can be found at Blakeney Point. Several companies offer excellent opportunities to view these wonderful animals including Beans Boat Trips, Temples Boat Trips, Bishop’s Boat Trips, and Blakeney Point Seal Trips.
